     At the same time,major container shipping companies have also released benchmark freight rates for containers in early July,showing that container freight rates on multiple routes have increased.

    Why is the international container freight rate increasing again,and what impact will it bring to relevant industries?Starting from July 1st,shipping companies have made a new round of adjustments to their route pricing.Although some nearshore routes have shown a downward trend,most long-distance routes have expectations of price increases.

     Taking the benchmark freight rate from China to major destination ports in Europe as an example:On July 1st,the benchmark freight rate for standard containers was quoted at$7300 per box,which is more than 10%higher than the previous week's June 25th quotation of$6600 per box.Similarly,the benchmark price for large boxes is quoted at$13600 per box,an increase of over 7%compared to the previous week's quotation.

     Guo Shaohai,who has been in the industry for more than 30 years,said he has never experienced such a situation where freight rates have risen continuously.He said that there are many factors that affect international container freight rates,the most important of which are the volume of goods carried and the efficiency of destination port transportation.

     The backlog of containers in the early stage urgently needs to be cleared and transshipped,and the combined increase in freight orders has made it difficult for some destination ports to alleviate the pressure in the short term,pushing up recent international container freight rates.At the same time,high freight rates have also affected the delivery speed of some export enterprises'orders.Some products with low value can only be temporarily stored in transit warehouses.What impact will this have on the warehousing end?

     The person in charge of a foreign trade transit warehouse stated that his daily work starts with inventory counting.Currently,the international container transportation capacity is tight,and the temporary storage site of this warehouse has already stacked more than 20 heavy containers waiting for export.

     At present,the storage capacity of this transit warehouse has exceeded 85%,approaching full capacity.More than 30%of them require transit exports,an increase of 10%compared to previous years.

     According to data from the General Administration of Customs of China,the total export value of China in May 2021 was$263.922 billion,an increase of 23.4%compared to$206.431 billion in the same period last year.

     With the increase of China's exports,container throughput has also reached new highs.From January to May this year,the container throughput of China's eight major hub ports reached 230 million standard containers,an increase of 17.1%compared to the 196 million standard containers in the same period last year.

     Industry insiders say that with the improvement of the epidemic in various regions,the effective capacity of international containers is recovering,and the congestion at ports will ease in the fourth quarter.

     The sharp increase in freight rates is not good for freight forwarders and foreign trade companies,but upstream container sales companies and shipping companies have made a lot of money.According to Deloitte's estimate,the EBIT of the transportation industry in 2021 will exceed the total of the past 10 years.
